Juan Diego Latino Center Nativity Church and HOLA, with funds from the Welborn Baptist Foundation and a private donation, will partner in the operation of the Juan Diego Latino Center as a centralized location to foster integration and facilitate pastoral and outreach services for the Latino community. Goals:
English fluency and educational opportunities; spiritual life and faith formation; housing alternatives; employment and training; advocacy leadership skills; legal and security services; Pastoral Objectives: Cultural Competency Project Center Director, in consultation with an executive committee appointed by the pastor and cultural competency experts will form a committee to identify and address barriers that prevent integration into Nativity and develop leadership skills so all members can participate in the following committees: Faith Formation Committee train leaders to serve on the committee and participate in developing integrated faith formation and sacramental programs for children and adults that meet the needs of Latinos and Diocesan standards; Stewardship Committee train leaders to serve on committee to increase Latino membership and participation in ministries, committees, fundraisers; Sunday tithing; sharing with poor and worthy causes; Spanish bulletin and newsletter; Hospitality Committee train Latino leaders to serve on committee to run events that foster fun and a knowledge of and appreciation for cultural differences and similarities; Finance & B & G Committee train leaders to serve on committee to maintain facilities; monitor finances; develop grants and Latino fundraisers; Liturgy Committee Latino Liturgy Coordinator will develop Latino leaders to serve on committee to provide quality Spanish liturgy celebrations; Latino Center Director will assist her; Outreach Objectives: Cultural Competency Project Center Director, in consultation with an executive committee appointed by the HOLA president and Nativity pastor and cultural competency experts, will form a committee to identify and address barriers that prevent integration into community and develop leadership skills and strategies to facilitate outreach efforts by service groups to serve on following committees: Education Committee train leaders to partner with EVSC, Opening New Horizons, USI, UE Ivy Tech, 4C, SINE, Head Start to develop strategies for teaching ESL, providing tutoring and childcare services; partner with school community councils; Health Committee train leaders to partner with Welborn Foundation, Health Dept. St. Marys, Deaconess, CAPE; ECHO; Youth First; 4C, and private practitioners to provide services to develop healthy living behaviors; Hospitality Committee train leaders to partner with HOLA, government and local Latino leaders to organize Latino Festivals; develop and distribute newcomer packages; enhance Latino database; Legal & Security Committee partner with the Police and Sheriff, Judges and Bar Association to organize outreach programs to increase trust and knowledge of law and protection services; Funding Committee partner with HOLA and Nativity, to continue grants from Welborn and develop new grants and fundraisers;
