Director of Faith Formation Job Description
Definition: Professional Catechist to administer womb- to-tomb faith formation programs for a small culturally diverse Vatican II parish in collaboration with the vision set by the Pastor and Pastoral Council.
Collaboration: Pastor, Pastoral Council, Pastoral Team and Faith Formation/Religious education Team; Deanery and Diocesan Directors of Catechesis and Youth Ministry; others as directed by Pastor.
Children, youth & young adult programs:
. Develop program and catechists for Sunday school; sacramental prep; Liturgy Word; VBS; RCIC;
. Coordinate Catholic school committee to set policy, eligibility, tuition, scholarships, vouchers;
. Recruit, train and empower lay catechists and parent helpers; keep accurate sacramental records;
. Communicate regularly with families; attend appropriate parish and diocesan meetings;
. Coordinate and supervise staff to provide spiritual, educational, health and fun activities for all youth;
Collaborate with the Diocesan Youth Director to include youth in diocesan youth programs and events;
. Coordinate Life Teen program, EDGE and plan service opportunities at social, fishfrys and parish events;
. Collaborate with music minster to foster youth choirs, Christmas plays and holy week services, etc.
Parent programs:
. Coordinate staff for Latino Dad’s, Mom’s & Couple’s programs and Latino Men’s & Women’s Clubs;
. Foster participation in Diocesan and Deanery formation programs like Cursillo;
. Collaborate with Pastoral Associate for adult formation to develop seasonal and special programs;
. Develop program and catechists for Latino RCIA; adult 1st Communion & Confirmation programs;
. Develop program and catechists for Latino evangelization for Catholics and un-churched;
. Collaborate with pastor and Catholic Charities to provide Latino marriage prep. and counseling;
Administration:
. Participate in weekly pastoral team meetings; monthly Council or Formation Team; Diocesan meetings; Develop vision, goals, objectives and long range planning for womb to tomb formation programs for all; . Collaborate with consultants and pastoral team for Latino lay leadership training;
. Develop a Catholic school committee to oversee policy, eligibility, finances, and vouchers for families;
. Develop annual Formation budget and participate in budgeting process;
. Supervise, evaluate and train volunteer and paid catechists and youth workers;
. Oversee implementation of youth protection policies and training for catechists and youth ministers;
Salary and Benefits: negotiated professional salary based on experience and education; fully paid Diocesan insurance; two week vacation after one year (3 for Masters and/or more experience); pension after 5 years; 403B available immediately; expense account for travel, conferences, training.
